Research Target/

Exploring the physical properties of inorganic solids, oxides and metals in which strongly correlated electron-based oxides generated by coupling of charge, spin, orbitals and quasi-particles of de-localized electron systems play important roles.

Magnetic & Dielectric Oxide & Semiconductor/

We are researching a new oxide dielectric called electronic dielectric. The oxide represented by the composition formula of RFe2O4 (R is a rare earth) has a structure in which two layers in which iron ions form a triangular lattice are stacked along the c-axis, and iron ions are equal in Fe3+ and Fe2+. Frustration occurs in both charge and spin because there are only a few, and interesting phenomena related to charge-order and disorder transitions and magnetic transitions can be seen. We are growing single crystals of this substance and elucidating basic physical properties./電子誘電体と呼ばれる新しい酸化物誘電体について研究を行っている。 We are also focusing on the synthesis of new oxide semiconductors and magnetic materials using mist chemical vapor deposition. This is a method of forming a mist of raw materials and depositing them on a substrate to obtain a thin oxide film, and it is possible to form crystals with a metastable structure that cannot be obtained using conventional methods. In addition to searching for synthesis conditions, structural analysis, and physical property measurements for high-quality epitaxial thin films, we also manufacture and evaluate the performance of devices such as diodes and transistors. Related articles Electric DielectricsMist CVD

The bright red color of stained glass and faceted glass is due to the coloration of tens of nanometer gold particles dispersed in the glass. At this time, light energy is concentrated around the nanoparticles, and a resonance state of light and electrons called “surface plasmon” is realized. If this state is used properly, it will become clear that it will become a new technique for collecting, confining, and emitting light, and the field of science called surface plasmon = plasmonics was born. In our laboratory, we are using nanofabrication technology to create a structure (= nanoantenna) in which nanoparticles are arranged periodically, and we are studying its properties and applications. The nanoantenna has a property of strongly confining light in the antenna plane and emitting it in a specific direction. When combined with a light emitting material, the light emission intensity can be increased by one digit or more, and the light emission can be directed. In our laboratory, we are conducting world-leading research toward the application of nano antenna light sources and lighting./ステンドグラスや切子グラスの鮮やかな赤色、これはガラス中に分散した数十ナノメートルの金粒子の呈色によるものである。
